    ANTHONY GISMONDI WINE REVIEW

Hester Creek Pinot Gris 2008, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, $17

In the Saturday, May 9th issue of the Vancouver Sun, wine writer Anthony Gismondi wrote:
One of the better pinot gris at this price with its fresh apple/pear nose and a touch of honey in the background. The flavours are similar with a touch of nectarine and plenty of citrus in its fresh mouth-watering finish. With a new winery opening this summer, we expect future releases will only get better.

    Winery Construction Progress

As you may already know, we are in the midst of building our new winery. The construction of this 23,000 square foot building is progressing well and we look forward to the mid summer of 2009 when we will see our entire operation consolidated into one building.

Our new wine shop and tasting room will include a full kitchen facility for cooking classes. Invited chefs will create culinary delights and show you how it is done, hands on if you wish. We will be creating stay & cook packages in conjunction with our new Villa, details of which will follow in the new year.

We are very excited about our new facility and look forward to sharing it with you in 2009.

    In the Vineyard

We are continuing to convert our irrigation system from overhead to drip irrigation. Our new drip system will allow for accurate delivery of water, reduce evaporation and eliminate overspray. Plants thrive on an optimum balance of oxygen and moisture around their roots. Slow application rates maintain this optimum condition, and proper scheduling will eliminate wet/dry fluctuations that stress plants. Slow application of water also minimizes erosion and compaction of the soil. Water-borne pests, especially fungal diseases, are reduced because foliage is kept dry when the pests may be most active. Since water is applied to the root zone, the area between the plants remains dry and the germination of weeds, which compete with the vines, is reduced.

    In the Cellar

In the cellar, things have really changed for our winemaking team. After weeks of moving equipment from the old building to the new winery, staff are now busy getting organized in our new facility.  Our original winery building was demolished on April 21st. Our new winery now houses our barrel cellar, fermenting tanks, press, and lab.
